Some of our campers have been driving and backing trailers for years and others are new at it.
We have had campers arrive who managed to drive the entire way without backing up at all. It’s too bad that these people had to experience such a stressful trip instead of conquering their fear and mastering the art of backing up their trailer. It can be done. It just takes training and some practice.
The problem for most of us is that, while backing up, it seems like everything is backwards. It feels like right is left and left is right. There are manuals that show how to back up but it can be hard to put yourself in the picture. Watching a video, like the one linked below, can be helpful but there just is no substitute for actually getting in and practicing in real life.
If you remember drivers training when you were young you can identify with how practicing your parallel parking skills was intimidating but effective. You can do the same thing with your trailer. If you’ve just purchased your RV why not spend some time in an empty parking lot in the evenings backing in between horizontal lines?
There is one thing we are sure of and that is the level of confidence and feeling of freedom that comes with knowing how to expertly back up your own trailer. We believe you can do it and will be proud of your efforts.
That said, however, if you arrive here and don’t feel comfortable backing into your campsite be sure to let us know and we will assist you any way we can. Then you can get down to the business of enjoying your vacation.
