As much as we wish everyone could finish their camping trip without getting rained on, it sometimes happens. We like to think there are ways to make the best of a rain day and we’ll share a few of them here.

It helps to bring card games and activities for kids to play inside when the sprinkles begin. They can enjoy an afternoon of playing board games with the family as much as playing outside if you approach it right. Kids also like to make things so a quick search on Pinterest will help you with some ideas for crafts to keep them occupied for the day.
A lot of people use the time to go exploring since they can’t sit around the campfire with friends. You could visit the famous Jello Museum which we think you’ll find really interesting. There is plenty of shopping in the area or you may want to spend some time at a casino. You could go to Alleghany, Buffalo Creek, or Niagara and play the slots, enjoy a meal, or maybe even take in a concert.
Sometimes, a rain day is just a good excuse to stay in your comfy clothes and read all day. Is there a new mystery series you’ve wanted to start and haven’t had time? Do you find yourself reading one paragraph at bed and falling asleep? A quiet afternoon inside might be all you need to gain some traction in that story.
You could also invite your neighbors over for soup and sandwiches. They are probably looking for things to do as well. There is something about spending that kind of quiet time together that brings out the good stories and close bonding between people.
You may just find you enjoyed your rain day and got as much value from it as the sunny ones while you were here. We hope so, and we’ll do our best to give you ideas when the waterworks begin.
